Cat’s Eye is not a specific mineral, but rather a special optical effect that can be seen in a variety of minerals. When cut and polished these minerals will have a narrow band of light, known as chatoyancy, that moves from side to side when the stone is turned. This band of light is reminiscent of a cat’s vertical pupil, hence the name.
