Hand-Painted Wooden Ganesha Statue
Ganesha (also Ganesa or Ganapati) is one of the most important gods in Hinduism. He is the Lord of Good Fortune who provides prosperity, fortune, and success. He is the Lord of Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles of both material and spiritual kinds. Interestingly, he also places obstacles in the path of those who need to be checked. Ganesha is the patron of writers, travelers, students, and commerce, and he removes obstacles blocking new projects. This deity is fond of sweets, to the slight detriment of his figure.
Ganesha is easily recognized with his elephant head and human body, representing the soul (atman) and the physical (maya).
Ganesha’s name literally means “Lord of Gana.” Ganesha was entrusted by Shiva with the leadership of the Ganas, Shiva’s dwarfish, rowdy retinue, in compensation for the loss of his human head.
